To Exfoliate or not to exfoliate?
This is the age-old question that guys ask each other around campfires and at the footy, up there with the god particle and who will win the FA cup. The truth of the matter is exfoliation is a no brainer; it is essential if you want clean healthy skin, like bathing was to Queen Victoria, it's something you should practice once a week whether you need it or not.
See, it turns out your skin is your largest organ and literally the barrier between you and the outside world, producing and then shedding millions of cells each day. It’s constantly generating new skin cells at the dermis layer and sending them to the surface - the epidermis.
As we age the process of cell turnover slows down. Cells start to pile up unevenly on the skin's surface, giving it a dry, rough, dull appearance. Exfoliation is the simple process of removing these dead cells from the top layers of your skin in order to reveal the healthy cells beneath.
Exfoliation is not so much about vanity as it is about good healthy practice, as it is under this dead skin that oil build up and grime deposits turn into black heads and blemishes.
